The jaw pads had a unique snap pattern so Riddell and BIKE jaw pads do not fit them. They are also as rare as the helmets themselves as many helmets are found without the jaw pads. Then you have to find a set to fit.

Again thank you for the info!!
Certainly something to keep an eye out for.
It is great to have a resource for the history of these old helmets.. Having only been collecting now for a couple months, I'm learning as I go.. Where Nokona and southern athletic helmets widely used in the NFL or college?
Thanks
Matt

I don't have a lot of knowledge on either brand. I believe Nokona was used by some of the Cowboys in the 70's. They are relatively easy to spot as they had a couple screws in the front of the helmet similar to Wilson or Rawlings helmets. Don't know anything about Southern Athletic. I would imagine they are tougher or impossible to spot in photos or film as they are conventional suspension helmets similar to Riddell.

Yes, anymore you almost need to find one at a flea market or garage sale by someone selling it as "an old helmet." If they make it to eBay all hope is lost due to collectors offering buy it nows to the seller or bidding wars if a buy it now is not offered.

I just bought an old Riddell Kra-Lite 2 bar suspension helmet.  Its in ok shape but the suspension webbing is deterioated bad.  Does anyone know where one could get new "replica" webbing installed?

A 32-hole Riddell with rare Riddell tubular mask
Unitas wore one of those, as well as Art Donovan and Leo Nomellini.
Colors and era are correct for Syracuse, but who knows?

A made-up helmet with all vintage parts.....
This what you can do with an old Riddell shell with a crack in the back.
Facemask is Big-Daddy Lipscomb-style and seals the deal.
Finding these original, late-50s full cages are like looking for a needle in a haystack. MVC-027S.JPG
