Hi all. I was reading some post on here yesterday about taking a heat gun to bring back the shine on a facemask. So I had an idea of taking an old facemask with a big goug in it. Then I had another mask that's beyond repair and cut some of the coating off it and melted it in the goug. Before it would cool I took 400 sand paper and shaped it and smoothed it out took a few tries but it turned out pretty good. I will now be able to paint and not know the difference.  Maybe it's been tried on here before but thought I would share 20230720_200127.jpg

Thanks for the post.  I don’t believe anyone has ever posted doing this.  Very cool.  A couple questions for you.  Is this a modern mask or an older 70s style.  I see it is an NOP style but tough to tell from your pic what era it is from.

Did you use a flame (torch) to melt the coating or a heatgun?  You mentioned painting it - are you painting the entire mask or just the area that you repaired?

Thanks again for posting.

When I paint facemasks I'll paint the whole mask and I've found out that just scuffing and painting works better than priming. Keep in mind I'm using rustoleum rattle cans. I did purchase a spray gun yesterday and am excited to try it out.
